Why join a nursing association? For a long time I didn’t belong to any, not even the American Nurses Association. I didn’t see the benefit and wasn’t sure what they had to offer. At one time (not now) I wanted to just do my job and go home. I didn’t want anything to do with nursing outside of the work place.
My nursing career started over 30 years ago when I became a nursing assistant at my local VA hospital, later getting my RN at age 26. I had no clear nursing career goals at that time, I just knew I wanted to work in a hospital and no where else. My career has consisted of working in, psychiatry, med – surg , cardiac, emergency room, student health, oncology, hospice, oncology home health and now nurse entrepreneur.
Doing well in a job interview is as much about mental preparation as anything else. A person who comes into an interview composed, relaxed and sharp is more likely to get the job than someone who comes into the interview nervous, tense and fidgety, even if they have a better resume.
